My fascination with cars, primarily car design, goes back to when I was 11 years old and I saw my first 1958 Chevy Impala.
I would collect photos and was intrigued with the lines and style. Back then, when the new cars for the year were about to be unveiled, the showrooms would have brown paper on the windows, so you wouldn’t see them until the right time. I remember scoping out the windows until I saw a rip in the paper and could get a glimpse.
That was a 1959 Chevy with its wide fins. It was a total departure from my favorite 1958 model. When I started high school at Lane Tech in Chicago, I thought it was the right high school to prepare for college to set me in the right direction to become an automotive designer.
